Why Rotate Your Tires?

Like all components in your vehicle, tires eventually wear out, and typically they wear out unevenly. The front tires’ edges will reveal more substantial wear, and your rear wheels usually deteriorate more evenly. If you forget to rotate your tires, they may wear out at different stages, and you’ll end up having to purchase a complete set of new tires prematurely. When you rotate your tires regularly, you will save money in the long run. More importantly, it will keep you safer on your drives around Mason.

When to Rotate Tires

To learn when to rotate tires or how many miles to rotate tires, keep on reading. Front and rear-wheel drive Hyundai models need their tires rotated approximately every 5,000 to 7,500 miles, while all-wheel-drive cars must get their tires rotated about every 3,000-5,000 miles. AWD cars require their tires to rotate more often because all four tires are engaged at once. That usually causes them to wear down quicker. Check your Hyundai owner’s manual for specific recommendations for your particular Hyundai model.

Correct Tire Positions When Rotating Tires

  • FWD Tires: When rotating the tires on your FWD Hyundai model, move the front tires to the back of your vehicle in the same left/right positions. But, when moving the rear tires to the front of your car, shift the right and left tire positions.
  • RWD Tires: When rotating your RWD tires, do the opposite, as stated above. Carry your rear tires forward in the same left and right positions. When you transfer the front tires to the rear, make sure you switch the tire positions.

How to Rotate Tires

If doing DIY tire rotation, you’ll need a car jack and a lug nut wrench. When you have the tools on hand, follow the steps below to rotate your Hyundai tires:

  1. As an extra safety precaution, set your parking brake.
  2. Loosen the lug nuts on all of your wheels; just don’t take them off yet.
  3. Using your car jack, lift up one wheel and place the jack beneath it.
  4. Remove all of your Hyundai tires and inflate them to the recommended PSI. You’ll find it written on the outside of each tire. Once filled correctly, rotate your tires according to the recommendations above for your type of tires. Then, put the lug nuts on by hand until they feel snug.
  5. Lower your Hyundai from the jack stand and, using the lug wrench, tighten and secure all of the lug nuts on your tires. Tire manufacturers recommend tightening the lug nuts diagonally from one to another in a star-like design.
